Lewis Clareburt is a highly accomplished swimmer from Wellington, New Zealand, whose impressive performances have earned him widespread acclaim both at home and abroad.
At the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Lewis was a standout member of the New Zealand swim team, winning two gold medals in the 400m IM and 200m fly, as well as a bronze medal in the 200m IM. His outstanding performance helped set the tone for the team, which went on to secure a total of nine medals. This was a huge accomplishment for Lewis, who had previously won a bronze medal in the 400m IM at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games four years earlier.
Lewis continued to impress on the world stage at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where he made his debut appearance. Despite tough competition from some of the world's best swimmers, Lewis put on an impressive performance, finishing 7th in the 400m IM and 8th in the 200m IM. Qualification to the Olympics immortalised himself in New Zealand Olympic history as Olympian #1408.
Beyond his success at the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics, Lewis has also made his mark as a world championship medallist, securing a bronze medal in the men's 400m IM in 2019.
Lewis, under the mentorship of coach Gary Hollywood, is highly recognised for his work ethic, dedication, and pursuit of excellence in swimming. He consistently contributes to the swimming community, most recently through his involvement in the Dive Start program. In this program, Clareburt generously imparts valuable advice, offers constructive feedback, and serves as a source of inspiration to aspiring young swimmers, fostering their growth and development in the sport.
Outside of the pool, he is pursuing his studies towards a Bachelor of Commerce at Victoria University.
