Growing up in Fielding, Manawatu, Mya Rassmussen began training under Kiwi West Aquatics where she was the youngest New Zealand female at 13 years old to break the 5-minute mark in the 400m Individual Medley.
Mya had her breakout year in 2017 at the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas, where she won Gold in the 400IM and added two silvers to her resume in the 200m Breaststroke and 200IM.

Growing up in Fielding, Manawatu, Mya Rassmussen began training under Kiwi West Aquatics where she was the youngest New Zealand female at 13 years old to break the 5-minute mark in the 400m Individual Medley.
Mya had her breakout year in 2017 at the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas, where she won Gold in the 400IM and added two silvers to her resume in the 200m Breaststroke and 200IM.
A switch to both a new coach and city helped kickstart Kiwi swimmer Mya Rasmussen’s path to 2022 - culminating in qualification for the World championships and Commonwealth Games. Rasmussen is now living in Brisbane where she is coached by the experienced Tim Lane at Somerville House. She made the move fro New Zealand to the Sunshine Coast in 2018, and last year making the shift just down the road to Brisbane.
In 2022, she represented NZ at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, and the 2022 World Aquatics Short Course Championships in Melbourne, Australia.
