Originally from Wellington, Ruby competed in the 200m Butterfly for most of her teenage years when she decided to switch her focus to the Open Water events in 2020. Having had placed in the top three each time she has competed in the 10km event at the Swimming NZ National Open Water Champs, winning two of them, this was clearly the correct decision as it soon earned her the Aquablack selection.

2022 was Ruby’s pinnacle year, to date, when she became Aquablack 278 representing New Zealand at the 2022 FINA World Champs competing in the 5km, 10km & 25km Open Water events plus she was a member of the Women’s 4 x 200 freestyle relay at the FINA Short Course World Champs later that year in Melbourne.
In early 2021 Ruby relocated to Dunedin to train under Olympic Coach Lars Humer, to progress her performance in the Open water events.
The goal remains representing NZ at the Olympics, and with the passion and drive she has had since starting competitive swimming at the age of 8 who’s to say that won’t one day become a reality.
